Meso Rojaciwanan – My Immigration and Switzerland Experiences

Hello, Call Me Meso

I am Müslüm Atmaca. But you can call me Meso for short. I chose this name because it reminds me of my roots and reflects my stance against assimilation politics. I believe that the deepest bonds in life are formed through sincerity, and that is exactly how my story begins.

I was born in Turkey-Kurdistan, lived in Germany and Italy, and now continue my life in Switzerland. I know very well what it feels like to be a stranger even in your own homeland. My life has been an uninterrupted 20-year immigration journey, constantly driving me to seek a place where I would find happiness and a sense of belonging.

After 10 years of struggle in Germany and Italy, I have been living in Bern, Switzerland since 2015. This multilingual, orderly, and naturally captivating country gave me the feeling I was looking for. In my opinion, “home” is where one is happy.

Direct Immigration Experiences and My Knowledge Base

My knowledge base on focusSwiss.com does not come from a diploma or a corporate career; it feeds exclusively from lived experience that I have felt to the core.

The 20 years since I left Turkey in 2005 have kept me in a continuous struggle for adaptation. My time in Germany and Italy provided me with practical groundwork in dealing with the bureaucratic, financial, and cultural difficulties of immigration firsthand. My volunteer work in migrant associations in Italy solidified this practical knowledge by helping hundreds of people.

However, my core focus and the area where I have deepened my experience is Switzerland, which has been my home since 2015. In the last 10 years in Bern, Switzerland, I have not just lived; I have carried out a personal research project to solve every detail from A to Z of this country (bureaucratic, social, and financial) to make life easier for myself.

The source of information on focusSwiss.com is my 10-year, intensive, and established Bern, Switzerland Experience. This site is a personal guide aimed at helping others who are experiencing similar difficulties. All these experiences gathered on this journey, I narrate step-by-step in the category “My Immigrant Journey”.

My Mission: Narrating the True Essence of Switzerland

The mission of focusSwiss.com goes beyond presenting Switzerland as just a postcard beauty. My goal is to honestly reveal both the challenging aspects and the admirable aspects of this “perfect” system and beautiful country, through the eyes of an immigrant. I will criticize where necessary, and I will praise where appropriate. I aim to convey the true essence of Switzerland, with all its difficulties and ease, to you with full transparency.

My slogan summarizes this entire journey: “A Stranger in the Homeland, at Home in the Distance.”

My Commitment to Trust
